Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest
Exciting news for JRPG fans! Guns Undarkness, the upcoming tactical stealth RPG, will be launching a free demo during the highly anticipated Steam Next Fest. This project is spearheaded by none other than Shoji Meguro, the celebrated composer known for his work on the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Joining him are Ghost in the Shell character artist Ilya Kuvshinov and rapper Lotus Juice, renowned for his contributions to Persona 3.
Shoji Meguro's journey in the gaming industry began in 1995 at Atlus, where he crafted memorable soundtracks for the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, he ventured into indie game development while still collaborating with Atlus on music projects. His latest endeavor, Guns Undarkness, is a sci-fi stealth action JRPG developed under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.
The game was initially unveiled at the Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully met its Kickstarter goals in 2022. Mark your calendars for February 24, 2025, as the free demo will be available during Steam Next Fest, with the full game slated for early access later in the year.
Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona
Guns Undarkness is described on its Steam page as a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game plunges players into a world teetering on the edge of destruction. As part of a private military company, you'll embark on missions with allies to unravel the mysteries threatening humanity.
The gameplay is divided into two key elements: stealth and combat. In stealth mode, players can navigate the environment undetected, gaining a strategic advantage in subsequent battles. Combat is turn-based, requiring players to issue commands and utilize various firearms to overcome enemies.
The demo for Guns Undarkness will offer approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial covering basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and early-game strategies. The full game is expected to launch in Spring 2025 for Early Access, offering around 10 hours of content on PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, fans can look forward to diving into this intriguing new world soon.
