Cookie Run: Kingdom's Version 5.6 Update: A Rollercoaster of Hype and Backlash
Devsisters recently announced the "Dark Resolution's Glorious Return" update (version 5.6) for Cookie Run: Kingdom, a substantial update brimming with new content: cookies, episodes, events, toppings, and treasures. However, the update's reception has been decidedly mixed.
The Good:
The update introduces Dragon Lord Dark Cacao Cookie, an Ancient+ rarity Cookie with a Charge type and frontline position. His Awakened King skill inflicts significant damage, applies a CRIT Resist debuff, and incorporates a powerful team-up attack. A special Nether-Gacha increases the odds of acquiring him.
A new Epic Cookie, Peach Blossom Cookie, joins the roster as a Support type. Her Heavenly Fruit skill provides healing and buffs DMG and Debuff Resist for allies.
A new World Exploration episode, continuing Dark Cacao Cookie's story, features stages with Yin and Yang effects.
The Bad and the Ugly:
The introduction of the Ancient+ rarity, with a maximum 6-star promotion level, has sparked significant controversy. The addition of an eleventh rarity, instead of enhancing existing characters, angered many players, particularly those in the Korean community and whale guilds.
This backlash led to threats of a boycott, prompting Devsisters to postpone the update (originally scheduled for June 20th) to reconsider the new rarity system. The official postponement was announced via a tweet.
The community's response highlights the delicate balance developers must strike between introducing new content and maintaining a fair and engaging gameplay experience. The decision to postpone the update demonstrates a willingness to address player concerns, but the long-term impact on the game remains to be seen. What are your thoughts on this situation?
