Epic Games Gives Away Free Game on January 16

Escape Academy, a highly-rated escape-room style puzzle game, is the Epic Games Store's free game offering for January 16th, 2025. This marks the fourth free game offered by the EGS in 2025, and based on its OpenCritic score of 80, it's the highest-rated freebie so far this year.

Players can claim Escape Academy for free from January 16th to 23rd, 2025. Developed by Coin Crew Games, the game challenges players to hone their escape room skills as students at the titular academy. This isn't the first time Escape Academy has been a free EGS offering (it was previously available on January 1st, 2024), but this giveaway provides a full week of access. This timing is particularly beneficial for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as the game is leaving the service on January 15th.

The game boasts positive reviews across various platforms, including Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store. Beyond its single-player mode, Escape Academy offers both online and split-screen multiplayer, praised as one of the best co-op puzzle experiences recently.

Here's a look at the Epic Games Store's January 2025 free game lineup:

  • January 1st: Kingdom Come: Deliverance
  • January 2nd-9th: Hell Let Loose
  • January 9th-16th: Turmoil
  • January 16th-23rd: Escape Academy

Following Escape Academy, the EGS's fifth free game of 2025 will be announced on January 16th. For players who enjoy Escape Academy, two DLC packs – Escape From Anti-Escape Island and Escape From the Past – are available for purchase individually ($9.99 each) or as a Season Pass ($14.99).
