The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo franchise and a popular Fortnite skin, recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus, much to the delight of fans. However, this celebratory comeback was briefly marred by a controversy surrounding a special Matte Black style.
Initially offered exclusively to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles, the Matte Black style was previously advertised as permanently obtainable. The unexpected announcement of its removal was met with significant backlash from the community.
Some players even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit over what they perceived as a breach of agreement. Fortunately, Epic Games quickly reversed course just 24 hours later. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X.
This reversal appears to be the most sensible outcome, particularly given the holiday season. Spoiling the festive cheer with such a contentious move would have undoubtedly been ill-advised.
