Is Mario Kart World Worth $79.99?
At $79.99 when purchased separately, Mario Kart World is priced $10 higher than the typical AAA game retail price for PlayStation and Xbox titles this generation. While rising game prices may raise eyebrows, development costs continue to climb, and Nintendo has positioned this as a premium launch title. Given its scale and open-world ambitions, many fans are optimistic that the gameplay and features will justify the increased cost.
What Is Mario Kart World?
Mario Kart World redefines what’s possible in the franchise by introducing a sprawling open world similar in scope to the Forza Horizon series. The game allows seamless transitions between tracks, letting you drive from the finish line of one race directly into the starting area of the next during Grand Prix mode.
Tracks dynamically change based on time-of-day and weather conditions, affecting visibility and vehicle traction. Players also have the freedom to leave the track at any moment and explore the vast environments. With races supporting up to 24 drivers simultaneously, this is the largest Mario Kart experience to date.
A brand-new mode called Knockout Tour challenges players to race across the map, hitting checkpoints within a required placement. Fall behind, and you're eliminated. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, Free Roam mode offers unrestricted driving with friends, complete with photo opportunities and cooperative adventures.
More details about Mario Kart World will be revealed during the April 17 Nintendo Direct presentation. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for an early look at the game’s features and gameplay mechanics.
