Following the releases of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, several key figures from CD Projekt RED departed to pursue independent ventures. One such project, The Blood of Dawnwalker, is now in development.
Developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by a CD Projekt RED veteran, The Blood of Dawnwalker represents a departure from established norms. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the studio's lead, explained the impetus behind leaving CDPR:
The desire to explore innovative ideas with trusted colleagues led to the formation of Rebel Wolves. While we share a deep appreciation for the rich history of role-playing games, we believe the genre's conventions are ripe for expansion and reinvention. We conceived some truly radical concepts. However, convincing a large corporation to embrace such novel ideas, particularly with new intellectual property, proved challenging. Therefore, establishing our own studio became the only viable path to realizing our vision. This approach carries inherent risks, unlike the more established processes of larger studios.
Rebel Wolves prioritizes close collaboration and open communication. The smaller team structure fosters a dynamic environment where shared vision and creative energy thrive more readily. This intimate setting facilitates the development and implementation of unique solutions.
