Guild Wars 2 Reveals How Homesteads Housing Will Work in Janthir Wilds

Author : Natalie Jan 26,2025

Guild Wars 2's upcoming Homesteads feature, launching alongside the Janthir Wilds expansion on August 20th, offers a revolutionary approach to player housing. This innovative system, showcased recently, provides players with a fully customizable, instanced space free from the usual MMO housing hassles of auctions, plots, or evictions.

Access to Homesteads is granted early in the Janthir Wilds storyline. The instanced nature ensures a personal, private space where players enjoy complete freedom in arranging over 300 (with plans for 800+) decorations. Precise placement control along all three axes (X, Y, and Z) allows for creative and unconventional displays.

Key features of Guild Wars 2 Homesteads include:

  • Instanced Housing: No competitive bidding or fear of losing your home.
  • Early Access: Unlocked early in the Janthir Wilds campaign.
  • 3D Placement: Unrestricted placement of decorations in three dimensions.
  • Extensive Decoration Options: Over 300 decorations at launch, expanding to 800+ by the end of the expansion. Acquisition methods include crafting, holiday events, and the cash shop.
  • Mount & Alt Display: Showcase mounts, skiffs, and even logged-out alternate characters within the instance. Alts receive a rest buff.
  • Equipment Showcase: Dedicated armor and weapon stands for prized gear and outfits.
  • Resource Gathering: Daily resource nodes from a mine, logging camp, and farm.

ArenaNet aims to deliver the most player-friendly housing system in an MMORPG, and the early previews suggest they're on track to achieve this goal. The combination of freedom, customization, and convenience makes Homesteads a highly anticipated addition to Guild Wars 2.
