In an engaging interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how NetherRealm Studios plans to differentiate the gameplay of Omni-Man and Homelander in the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 1. Boon's insights provide reassurance to fans eager to see unique combat styles for these two powerhouse characters.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During the IGN interview, Boon directly addressed the community's concerns about potential similarities between Homelander and Omni-Man's combat styles. He emphasized that the development team has been given the liberty to explore a wide array of creative ideas for these characters. However, their goal is to distinctly separate the abilities of Homelander and Omni-Man, ensuring players experience two very different heroes.
Boon stated, “Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that.” This approach aims to avoid any overlap with Superman-esque powers, promising a fresh and unique gameplay experience for each character.
Further delving into the specifics, Boon revealed that the inspiration for these characters' movesets draws heavily from their iconic actions in their respective shows. He assured fans that the main attacks will significantly differentiate Homelander from Omni-Man, and their Fatalities will reflect memorable moments from the series. Boon acknowledged the assumptions some fans had about the characters potentially being too similar, but reassured, “They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'”
