Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and many other titles, has shared a heartfelt message as he continues his recovery. Johnson was found "barely alive" in his hotel room last week, leading to a critical health scare that saw him placed in a coma.
A video from Johnson was shared on a GoFundMe page, which has successfully raised $174,653 to help cover his medical expenses and bills. In the video, Johnson expressed his gratitude, saying, "I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you."
Johnson was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After checking into his hotel and failing to appear at the event, his wife Kim Johnson grew concerned and called the hotel. Security and emergency medical technicians were dispatched, and they struggled to find a pulse upon reaching Johnson.
"Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here," Johnson shared. He credits his survival to his wife's quick action in calling the hotel, which led to his son alerting security. Johnson was then rushed to the hospital and placed in a coma for five days.
During his recovery, Johnson learned of the GoFundMe campaign organized by his friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker, along with his wife Kim. He expressed immense gratitude for the support and love shown by his community.
Johnson also thanked the National Alzheimer's Association for supporting his family during this time, Ted Leonsis of the Washington Capitals for a generous $25,000 donation, and Bethesda for their public support on social media. "You say that I'm your friend. I am," Johnson said to Bethesda. "Always will be. Love you guys."
He extended his appreciation to his fans, both those who donated and those who offered support in other ways. "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere," Johnson affirmed, promising a return to his work, albeit after a period of recovery. "It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers."
Throughout his career, Johnson has lent his voice to numerous characters across various media, with a significant focus on Bethesda games. His recent role was as Ron Hope in Starfield, and he has portrayed memorable characters like Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, three Daedric Princes in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4, among others.
