Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision

Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reaction generated by Dev Talk 10, which detailed plans for a four-division rank drop halfway through the season.

Players had voiced concerns that the frequent resets (proposed every 45 days) were demotivating and unfair. In a significant about-face, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their existing rank and score from the first half of the season. End-of-season resets, however, will still occur, resulting in a six-division drop.

Other Updates Remain On Track

Despite the rank reset reversal, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, remains on track. This aligns with NetEase Games' previous commitment to introducing two new characters per three-month season.

Reward structures for high-ranking players (Gold and above) also remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, will be awarded at the season's conclusion. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics haven't been revealed.

Community Feedback Heeded

Marvel Rivals highlighted its responsiveness to player feedback, emphasizing its commitment to community engagement. The rapid turnaround from the initial announcement of the mid-season reset to its subsequent cancellation underscores the developer's dedication to listening to player concerns. The studio stated, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
