An Eventful Coincidence

Metal Gear's iconic voice actor, David Hayter, who lends his voice to both Solid Snake and Big Boss, took to his Bluesky account to wish fans a Happy New Year, highlighting that 2025 marks the Year of the Snake. With a new game on the horizon, it seems like 2025 could truly be Snake's year. Hayter is slated to return as Solid Snake in the much-anticipated remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

The alignment of 2025 being the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac and the planned release year for the latest installment is more than just a coincidence. Konami celebrated this synchronicity with a video on their official YouTube channel titled "New Year’s Greetings." In it, three Taiko drummers perform energetically next to a calligraphy artist who beautifully writes the kanji for "snake." The video ends with "SNAKE YEAR" displayed in bold, emphasizing that this year celebrates not just the Chinese zodiac's Snake, but also Solid Snake.

Since its announcement in May 2024, followed by a trailer and demo at the Tokyo Game Show, there have been no further announcements or teasers until now. However, in a recent interview with the Japanese game information site 4Gamer, Metal Gear Solid Delta producer Noriaki Okamura shared that one of their key objectives for 2025, and indeed one of their biggest challenges, is to deliver a game that is highly polished and of superior quality.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to launch in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This remake of the 2004 classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater promises next-generation enhancements and modifications, including the reintroduction of Phantom Pain mechanics, as well as fresh voice recordings and new lines from the original voice cast.
