Moonstone Deck Dominates Marvel SNAP

Moonstone, the latest Ongoing card in Marvel Snap, can replicate the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Think of her as an advanced version of Mystique. However, crafting a robust deck around this potent yet delicate card is challenging, earning her the moniker "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP."

After thorough testing, I've identified the two top decks for Moonstone: Patriot and Tribunal setups. This guide will help you build and optimize both decks effectively. If you're still undecided about adding Moonstone to your collection, there's a brief review at the end to assist you in making that decision.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone excels in decks where she serves as a supporting role rather than the main win condition. For a dependable setup, consider integrating Moonstone into a Patriot-Ultron deck. The focus should be on having her copy one or two key Ongoing effects rather than over-relying on her ability.

To build a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Prepare the board for buffs by playing Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl.
  • Use one lane to play Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone (preferably in that order).
  • Play Ultron in the final round to fill all locations and benefit from the buffs one last time.
  • Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird serve as backup cards. If things go awry, they can help make up for any power deficit in one or two lanes.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

In my testing, I found that Moonstone offers incredibly engaging gameplay when paired with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. If you prioritize excitement over consistency, use Moonstone as a win condition alongside these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

The Living Tribunal69
Mystique30
Ravonna Renslayer22
Iron Man50
Captain America33
Howard the Duck12
Magik32
Psylocke22
Sera54
Iron Lad46

Here’s the ideal play line:

  1. Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
  2. Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man into her lane.
  3. In the final round, split the Power between all lanes with the help of The Living Tribunal.

In this setup, Psylocke and Sera act as discount providers, allowing you to play key cards earlier. Magik extends the match, enabling the play of Onslaught, followed by The Living Tribunal. Meanwhile, cards like Captain America and Iron Lad serve as backups in case you don't draw the necessary cards in time.

Many players had predicted the trio of Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal would become a staple in the metagame after Moonstone's release, with some even considering it her natural fit. However, few anticipated that she would have an arch-nemesis in this setup: Super Skrull.

How to Counter Moonstone

Unfortunately for Moonstone players, she’s an easy target for Super Skrull. Since her release, many players have been adding Super Skrull to their decks, anticipating Moonstone decks, and it works! Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also count as counters to Moonstone, leaving her quite vulnerable.

The biggest drawback of Moonstone is that she absorbs the abilities of cards in her own lane. So, unless you hide her behind cards like Invisible Woman, your opponent can easily shut down that lane with Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they could play Super Skrull in another lane to neutralize your strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her solid ability will only become more valuable as more Ongoing cards that synergize with her are released; 2) She’s in a Spotlight Cache alongside two other Series Five cards, reducing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She’s one of the most nostalgic new cards to join Marvel Snap. If you miss the days of pulling off crazy combos that add massive numbers to the board, Moonstone is a card worth getting.
