A source close to the development team reportedly indicated that the season is a last-ditch attempt to revive the game's dwindling player base. The game's initial launch in 2022 saw phenomenal success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly thereafter, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially labeling it an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates occurred in May 2024, but the game has yet to recapture its initial popularity.
