MultiVersus Season 5: A Last Stand?

Industry insider AusilMV, known for accurate game leaks, suggests that Season 5 of MultiVersus could be its final season if it fails to perform well. A source close to the development team reportedly indicated that the season is a last-ditch attempt to revive the game's dwindling player base. While this remains a rumor, the current situation is undeniably precarious.

The game's initial launch in 2022 saw phenomenal success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly thereafter, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially labeling it an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates occurred in May 2024, but the game has yet to recapture its initial popularity.

Season 5, launching in early February, represents a critical juncture for the developers. It may be their final opportunity to reignite player interest and prevent the game's permanent closure.

The game's relaunch strategy, framing the initial 2022 release as a "beta," proved controversial. Despite the game's initial popularity, the announcement of a temporary shutdown in March 2023, followed by the actual shutdown in June, angered many players, particularly those who had purchased the premium edition. The success or failure of Season 5 will ultimately determine the fate of MultiVersus.
