Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials. This is notable, as Nintendo rarely addresses leaks directly.
The reason for the statement is straightforward: Nintendo did not participate in CES 2025. Therefore, any Switch 2 imagery originating from the show cannot be considered legitimate promotional material.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, generating significant online buzz.
While Nintendo's statement dismisses the images as unofficial, the Genki replica's accuracy remains unconfirmed. However, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is an additional button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains a mystery.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to shed light on the "C" button, offered additional details. He suggested the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will utilize magnetic attachment, replacing the sliding rails of the original. He also reiterated claims from other sources suggesting the controllers will function as a mouse.
Nintendo previously stated it would reveal the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. Retail availability is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of around $399.
