Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in the Dynasty Warriors series, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.
Initial Assault:
Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. After securing two, a cutscene will trigger, introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base capture strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with a twin pike weapon.
Once all bases are under your control, assault Hulao Gate. This initiates a major confrontation with Dong Zhuo's forces. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the defenses.
Lu Bu's Intervention:
Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Instead, eliminate enemy officers around Lu Bu to maintain morale, which will be significantly depleted by his presence. Lu Bu will eventually target your main base and Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily hold him off, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; if Liu Bei's forces are routed, and you haven't defeated Dong Zhuo, Lu Bu will annihilate Yuan Shao, ending the mission.
Defeating Dong Zhuo:
After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases to prepare for the final assault. With all three squads ready, charge towards Dong Zhuo's commander's circle.
Dong Zhuo will employ Grand Tactics, launching fireballs. Destroy the front two catapults to counter his first attack. Musou Rage is highly recommended here. Clear the soldiers blocking the catapults. Focus on eliminating surrounding soldiers and officers to allow your troops to destroy the catapults.
Dong Zhuo will unleash another fireball attack, requiring you to defeat an officer. Take the right stairs; you'll encounter Diaochan, fighting alongside Dong Zhuo. If possible, duel her to avoid a two-front fight.
Once the second Grand Tactic is thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should be strong enough to overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even launch a Grand Tactic, further aiding your assault. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
