People Can Fly Cites Poor Square Enix Ties for Axed Game

Author : Anthony Oct 13,2025

People Can Fly, the Polish studio behind popular titles like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, has announced further workforce reductions following the cancellation of two in-development projects: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.

"We've reached the difficult decision to halt development on both Project Gemini and Project Bifrost – official market notifications regarding this matter have been distributed," stated CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski in a public announcement.

"Gemini's suspension resulted from the publisher's failure to provide amendments to our publishing agreement outlining future milestone terms, coupled with their lack of communication regarding project continuation.

"Bifrost's discontinuation stems from these factors plus our financial assessment, which revealed insufficient resources to sustain production through to release."

Wojciechowski added: "This forces painful organizational restructuring and team downsizing. We sincerely regret these developments and deeply appreciate every team member's contributions."

While Wojciechowski's statement doesn't name specific publishers, People Can Fly's official site reveals Square Enix partnered on Gemini while Bifrost was internally funded. Square Enix hasn't publicly responded.

The studio previously reduced staff by 120 late last year. Current projects include collaborations with Krafton (Project Echo), Sony (Project Delta), and Microsoft (Gears of War: E-Day).

The studio's latest launch is Bulletstorm VR, a virtual reality adaptation of the cult classic shooter for Meta Quest and PSVR 2 platforms.
