Fields of Mistria, from NPC Studio, is celebrated for its well-written characters, engaging dialogue, and thoughtfully crafted romance storylines. But can you actually *date* the romanceable characters within the game?
Can You Date in Fields of Mistria?
The short answer is: not in the traditional sense, not yet. However, having invested over 100 hours attempting to win March's affection, I can confidently say the existing romance system is incredibly rewarding and well worth the $13.99 Steam price tag.
The November 2024 update significantly expanded the romance system. The previous four-heart cap was increased to six, with each romanceable NPC receiving a new heart event to mark relationship milestones. These new events, featuring playable cutscenes, unlock at two, four, and six hearts, with plans for eight- and ten-heart events in future updates. However, no concrete dates beyond the upcoming March 2025 update have been announced, and that update won't include a higher heart cap or new heart events.

While the anticipation for future romance expansions is high, the current system shines. The dialogue is rich and realistic, often delightfully flirty, and even the early cutscenes, while potentially interpretable as platonic, leave room for romantic interpretations, building a satisfyingly slow-burn romance.
The recent update introduced the Shooting Star Festival, a summer event allowing dates with eligible NPCs (requiring four hearts with your chosen romance option). Currently, you can share a stargazing evening with Caldarus, although this doesn't trigger a date at the Summit location like other options. This may change with March 2025's update, which will unlock Caldarus's romance questline.
In short, while full-fledged dates aren't yet a feature, *Fields of Mistria* offers a compelling and deeply rewarding romance system that will keep players engaged until the feature is fully implemented.
