PlayStation Productions Unveils Multiple Game Adaptations
Featuring Helldivers 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and More

PlayStation Productions made major waves at CES 2025, announcing multiple game adaptation projects on January 7.
The first reveal was Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, an anime series produced by Crunchyroll and Aniplex. "The anime will debut exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027," confirmed representatives from the streaming platform. Industry veteran Takanobu Mizumo will direct, while acclaimed writer Gen Urobuchi handles story composition. Sony Music will contribute the musical score.

PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash and Screen Gems president Ashley Brucks jointly revealed film adaptations for Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2. Sony Pictures will produce Horizon Zero Dawn, while Columbia Pictures handles Helldivers 2. Details remain scarce, but the executives teased an Until Dawn film adaptation releasing April 25, 2025.
Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann concluded the presentation with updates on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet before unveiling a new trailer for The Last of Us season two. The HBO series will adapt The Last of Us Part II's storyline, introducing characters like Abby and Dina.
With these ambitious projects, PlayStation continues expanding its entertainment portfolio beyond gaming. Successful adaptations could pave the way for more franchise expansions.
PlayStation Productions' Previous Adaptation Work

Sony's history with game adaptations dates back to 2002's Resident Evil film starring Milla Jovovich. Despite mixed fan reception, the franchise spawned five sequels due to commercial success. Similarly, 2006's Silent Hill film performed well financially.
Established in 2019, PlayStation Productions debuted with 2022's Uncharted film starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. The Gran Turismo movie followed in 2023, with both exceeding box office expectations.

The production arm also created Peacock's Twisted Metal series in 2023, featuring vehicular combat in a post-apocalyptic setting. Though reception was modest compared to The Last of Us, season two completed production in late 2024.
Unannounced projects reportedly include Days Gone and Uncharted sequels, plus a God of War TV series. With PlayStation's expanding adaptation lineup, more franchises may receive multimedia treatments based on audience demand.
