Kyurem's Alternate Forms: Black and White
Following the December 2024 announcement of the February 2025 Unova Tour, Niantic has revealed the exciting addition of Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, and Shiny Meloetta.
From February 21st to 23rd, 2025, attendees of the in-person events in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and Los Angeles, USA, will have the unique opportunity to catch and fuse Kyurem into its Black and White forms. To begin, trainers must defeat Black or White Kyurem in five-star raids to obtain the base Kyurem form.
Once caught, Kyurem can be fused with either Zekrom or Reshiram, unlocking powerful new attacks: Freeze Shock (Black Kyurem) and Ice Burn (White Kyurem). Here’s what you'll need:
- Black Kyurem: 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Zekrom Candy
- White Kyurem: 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Reshiram Candy
Fusion Energies are earned by defeating Black or White Kyurem in raids. Reversing the fusion back to base Kyurem requires no Fusion Energy or Candy. Plus, there's an increased chance of encountering Shiny Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom during the event!
Trainers unable to attend the in-person events can still participate in the global event, Pokémon GO Tour: Unova – Global, from March 1st to 2nd, 2025. This free event requires no ticket.
Meloetta, the Melody Pokémon, Joins the Celebration
Adding to the excitement, Shiny Meloetta makes its Pokémon GO debut! In-person event attendees can complete a Masterwork Research task to encounter this elusive Pokémon. Don't worry about the short in-person event window; the Masterwork Research doesn't expire, allowing you to complete it at your own pace.

Iconic Legendaries from Pokémon Black and White 2
Kyurem, Reshiram, Zekrom, and Meloetta originally appeared in Pokémon Black and White, the fifth generation of the main series games featuring the Unova region. The first three are obtainable during the main storyline, while Meloetta is acquired upon completion. Pokémon Black and White 2 introduced Kyurem's alternate forms, capable of learning Ice Burn and Freeze Shock, mirroring their Pokémon GO counterparts.
With the Tao Trio's alternate forms available for a limited time in February and globally in March, trainers can now fully experience the wonders of Unova in Pokémon GO!
