Pokemon TCG Vending Machines: A Guide for Collectors

If you're a Pokemon fan with a social media presence, you've likely encountered posts about Pokemon vending machines. The Pokemon Company's expansion of these machines across the US has sparked curiosity, and this guide provides answers to common questions.

What are Pokemon Vending Machines?

These automated machines dispense Pokemon merchandise, much like a soda machine—though the prices aren't quite as budget-friendly. While various types have existed, the current US focus is on TCG-centric models initially trialled in Washington in 2017. The success of this trial led to wider deployment in grocery stores nationwide.

These machines are easily recognizable, featuring bright colors and prominent Pokemon branding. Their user-friendly touchscreen interface replaces older button-press systems, allowing for easy browsing and selection of TCG items. Payment is via credit card, and each purchase is accompanied by charming Pokemon animations. A digital receipt is emailed to the purchaser, but note that returns are not accepted.

What do Pokemon Vending Machines Sell?

Primarily, US Pokemon vending machines stock Pokemon TCG products, including Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Packs, and related items. Availability varies; while some items may sell out quickly (especially newer Elite Trainer Boxes), a selection of boosters and older boxes are usually available. Unlike some Pokemon Center machines in Washington State (which offered a broader range of merchandise), these machines generally don't sell plushies, apparel, or video games.

How to Find a Pokemon Vending Machine

A comprehensive list of currently active US Pokemon TCG vending machines is accessible on the Pokemon Center website. Currently, machines are located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. The website allows you to filter by state to locate nearby machines within partner grocery stores: Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Frys, Kroger, Pick ‘n Save, Safeway, Smith’s, and Tom Thumb. Distribution is currently concentrated in specific cities within each state. You can also follow the Pokemon Center location list to receive notifications of new machine installations.
