Mastering Rune Slayer's Fishing Mechanic: A Comprehensive Guide
If the presence of fishing in Rune Slayer hasn't already convinced you it's an MMORPG, consider this your definitive proof! This guide will walk you through the surprisingly non-intuitive fishing process.
Recommended Prep Work: Embark on Simon's Quest
Screenshot by The EscapistBefore casting your line, accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the Barracuda's swimming area). He requests 5 "fish" in exchange for a Tackle Box (the quotation marks will become clear later).
Gear Up: Acquiring Your Fishing Supplies
Screenshot by The EscapistTo catch those fish, you'll need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both. Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms (10 is recommended). Crucially, you do not equip the bait; simply keep the Worms in your inventory. Each successful catch (or "catch") consumes one Worm. It appears that having at least 5 worms in your inventory is a prerequisite for catching anything. Consider placing them in your hotbar for easy monitoring.
The Art of the Catch: Mastering the Fishing Technique
Gif by The EscapistSelect your Wood Fishing Rod (no equipping needed, just have it in your hotbar). Hold M1 to cast your line into the water (Simon's pier is ideal). Watch your bobber; when it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch.
Important Note: Success isn't guaranteed. You might catch nothing, or you might catch junk. However, Simon counts junk as a valid catch (hence the "fish" quotation marks). Simply repeat the process until you've accumulated 5 catches.
Quest Completion and Tackle Box Acquisition
