The Tuscaloosa Police Department is seeking public assistance to identify a criminal who robbed a convenience store while wearing a Scooby-Doo costume.
The thief targeted the Quick Stop on Highway 82 last weekend, with surveillance footage capturing the suspect—dressed as the iconic Hanna-Barbera character—stealing coins from gaming machines.
At one point, the suspect removed the Scooby-Doo headpiece, revealing an additional disguise: a face-concealing balaclava underneath. Talk about double protection!
Authorities describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 5'9", and are asking for information about the culprit's real identity. (We all know how these Scooby-Doo mysteries usually end—just peel off that mask!)
The Tuscaloosa Police Department shared surveillance images on Facebook showing the costumed burglar moving through the store at 3:45 AM. Officers noted the suspect "stole cash and coins, but apparently had no appetite for snacks." Priorities, right?
In a humorous follow-up, police posted a photo of the Mystery Machine parked outside their station with the caption: "We've interviewed the vehicle's owners, but no breakthroughs yet. Stay alert for suspicious caretakers, and remember—don't interfere if you spot the suspect."

Could this bizarre crime be a publicity stunt for Netflix's upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series?
Earlier this year, Netflix announced plans to reboot the franchise with a "modern reimagining" of the classic cartoon. The new series will feature teen investigators Shaggy, Daphne, Velma and Freddy (now spelled with a 'y') solving a supernatural murder mystery at a summer camp—with help from their "very special dog."
