In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral dilemmas. This guide will help you navigate the quest, particularly focusing on the critical decision of whether to side with Semine or Hashek.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough
After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you can begin "Necessary Evil." In this quest, von Bergow assigns Hans and Henry to gather intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogate a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome is crucial as it will decide whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough assumes you'll choose Semine, where the toughest decisions await.
Prisoner Interrogation Answers
During the prisoner's interrogation, you'll face several Speech checks. You can either use your Speech skill to threaten him or resort to torture. Here are the Speech check requirements:
- “We’ll put in a good word for you.” (20 Impression)
- “Istvan and I are old acquaintances.” (20 Impression)
- “Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you.” (17 Intimidation)
After the interrogation, you'll uncover the bandit leader's identity and Semine's involvement. When reporting to von Bergow, you can either inform him that Young Semine is colluding with the bandits, prompting an attack on Semine, or claim that no one locally aided the bandits, leading to an attack on Nebakov.
Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?
Choosing to attack Semine involves riding with the party and making further difficult choices related to Hashek. Opting for Nebakov leads von Bergow to deal with the bandits directly, concluding the "Necessary Evil" quest immediately.
Attacking Nebakov might be the choice for those wishing to avoid Semine's bloodshed. However, morally, allowing Semine to escape consequences after causing many deaths isn't ideal. I personally chose to attack Semine, feeling it was the right course despite having built connections there earlier in the game.
If you decide to attack Semine, ensure you ride with the party to prevent the town's complete slaughter. Accompanying them gives you a chance to aid Semine.
Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?
Before departing, a conversation with Hashek reveals his desire for revenge against Semine and his inclination towards the most violent path.
Upon reaching Semine, you must decide between siding with Semine or Hashek. To support Hashek, select the dialogue option “Hashek is right.” To support Semine, choose “Olda deserves a trial.”
I recommend siding with Semine. Although he erred by aiding the bandits, Hashek's vengeful approach would lead to more innocent deaths. Playing Henry as a morally upright character, it's fitting to stop Hashek's rampage.
After confronting Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee, which will advance the quest to the next objective of reporting to von Bergow.
Siding with Hashek results in the town's total destruction. You can also locate Olda in the tower and decide his fate—either spare him or hand him over to Hashek.
Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?
In the quest's final stage, Henry and Hans must report to von Bergow. You have the option to remain silent and let Hans handle the diplomacy or speak up and reveal the events at Semine.
I suggest staying silent and allowing Hans to talk. His diplomatic skills keep both you and him in von Bergow's favor, leading to plans for attacking Nebakov next.
That concludes the guide on navigating the choice between Semine and Hashek in the "Necessary Evil" quest of *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*. For more insights and tips on the game, including romance options and where to find Goatskin, visit The Escapist.
