Get Ready to Race! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Unveils New Features and Closed Network Test
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Sega and Sonic Team, promises the largest roster in series history, boasting iconic characters from both the Sonic and Sega universes. A recent PlayStation.blog post detailed exciting new features and mechanics.
A Massive Roster of Racers
While the full roster remains under wraps (though 23 characters are confirmed at launch, with more to come), the reveal trailer showcases a spectacular lineup. Expect to see favorites like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, alongside characters from Sonic Riders (Jet, Wave, Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok, Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman and his creations, the Chaotix, and even Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.
Dynamic Racing with CrossWorlds
Prepare for a revolutionary racing experience. Travel Rings will teleport racers between diverse CrossWorlds in real-time, transforming the race with new environments, obstacles, and even giant monsters! Each CrossWorld offers a unique theme park-style adventure. Expect 24 main tracks and 15 CrossWorlds to explore. Dynamic tracks, inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, will change throughout each lap, demanding constant adaptation.
Extensive Customization and Power-Ups
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers the most extensive vehicle customization yet, allowing players to modify everything from body parts and wheels to colors and glows. Players can also equip their characters with 23 different gadgets to fine-tune their racing strategy. The return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders adds a thrilling hoverboard-based racing option to the mix, expanding the gameplay possibilities. Takashi Iizuka, Sonic Creative Officer, calls it "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
Closed Network Test – Get Involved!
A closed network test (exclusively on PlayStation 5) will give players a chance to experience the game firsthand. Registration is open from February 12th to 19th, 2025, with the test running from February 21st to 24th, 2025. Participants who complete the post-test survey will receive an exclusive in-game sticker and title.
