Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance and subsequent confirmation for a new Star Wars film.
Isaac's past comments regarding a Star Wars return have been inconsistent. While initially expressing reluctance, stating in 2020 a return would only occur if he "needed another house or something," he later shifted his stance in 2022, telling Variety he was "open to anything." He previously voiced criticism of Disney's decision to reject his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character). Boyega himself has also expressed mixed feelings about his experience with the Sequel Trilogy but remains open to future roles.
This renewed interest in Isaac's involvement centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. The film focuses on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has publicly expressed her desire for Boyega's return, leading to speculation that the entire main trio from the Sequel Trilogy could reunite.
The possibility of a reunion remains uncertain, however, due to Disney's repeated delays of several announced Star Wars projects. While the Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is in development, its earliest potential release date is now December 17, 2027. Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clarity, but fans may have a considerable wait for definitive answers.
