TouchArcade Rating:
Mobile game updates often improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces an online DRM system. This DRM verifies your purchase history upon game launch, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Refusal results in game closure. While this takes only a few seconds with an internet connection, it renders these titles unplayable offline—a significant drawback from their previous offline functionality.
Pre-update testing confirmed all three games launched and functioned offline. This update changes that, requiring an online connection for every launch. This forced online DRM is unwelcome, especially for previously purchased games. Ideally, Capcom should find a less intrusive method of purchase verification, perhaps implementing checks less frequently. This update negatively impacts the recommendation of Capcom's premium mobile ports.
The games offer free trials. You can download Resident Evil 7 biohazard for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS here. Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village are available on the App Store here and here, respectively. Read my reviews here, here, and here.
