Ubisoft Halts Assassin's Creed Shadows Early Access and Disbands Prince of Persia Team
Ubisoft has announced significant changes impacting its upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows and the recently released Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The early access period for Assassin's Creed Shadows, previously offered to Collector's Edition purchasers, has been canceled. This decision follows a delay of the game's official launch to February 14th, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The price of the Collector's Edition has also been reduced from $280 to $230.
According to reports, the cancellation stems from challenges ensuring historical accuracy and cultural sensitivity within the game. While unconfirmed, rumors suggest Ubisoft Quebec is exploring the addition of a co-op mode featuring both antagonists, Naoe and Yasuke.
Separately, Ubisoft has dissolved the development team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at Ubisoft Montpellier. Despite positive critical reception, the game reportedly failed to meet sales targets, leading to this decision. While the exact sales figures remain undisclosed, Ubisoft acknowledged disappointment with the game's performance.
In a statement, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown's senior producer expressed pride in the team's work and confidence in the game's long-term success. He confirmed the completion of post-launch content updates and DLC, and highlighted future plans to expand the game's platform availability, including a Mac release anticipated this winter. The team members have transitioned to new projects within Ubisoft. The company remains committed to future Prince of Persia titles.
