Legend to legend, Bruce Willis shared invaluable advice while filming the 1994 blockbuster "Die Hard With a Vengeance." During a candid moment, Willis told Samuel L. Jackson:
"He said, 'Find a signature role—one you can always return to, even if other films flop,'" Jackson recalled in a Vanity Fair tribute celebrating Willis' 70th birthday. "'Arnold has Terminator, Stallone has Rocky and Rambo. For me, it's John McClane.' That lesson clicked when I landed Nick Fury with Marvel's nine-movie deal—Bruce's wisdom in action."
Jackson debuted as Fury in 2008's Iron Man post-credits scene before fully embodying the character in 2010's Iron Man 2. The role spanned 10 films (The Marvels, 2023), three TV series (Secret Invasion), and even video games—most recently voicing Fury in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Initially skeptical about fulfilling his nine-film contract ("How long do I need to live?"), Jackson laughed about Marvel's breakneck pace:
"Kevin Feige offered the deal, and suddenly they produced nine movies in under three years," he told GQ in 2024. "I thought contracts lasted decades—turns out Marvel works faster than time itself!"
