Stellar Blade's Festive Holiday Update: A Cozy Christmas in Xion
Stellar Blade is getting into the holiday spirit with a festive update arriving on December 17th! This update brings Christmas cheer to Xion, adding new costumes, decorations, and even a mini-game. Let's dive into the details.
New Holiday Outfits and Customization
Deck the halls (and Eve) with festive cheer! The update introduces Christmas-themed costumes for Eve, Adam, and even the drone:
- Santa Dress (Eve)
- Rudolph Pack (Drone)
- I'm No Santa (Adam)
To complete Eve's look, players can also equip a new Santa Girl hairstyle and accessories like Snow Crystal Glasses, Wreath Earrings, and Sleigh Ear Cuffs.
A Festive Xion and Mini-Game Fun
Xion itself is getting a holiday makeover, adorned with warm lights and festive decorations. The Last Gulp and Eve's camp will also share in the festive spirit, complete with new seasonal background music ("Dawn (Winter)" and "Take me away"). A new mini-game will also debut, challenging players to shoot targets on a holiday-themed drone for special rewards. Details on the mini-game's mechanics and prizes are still under wraps.
Control Your Seasonal Content
This update also introduces a toggle to enable or disable seasonal events, including the Nier:Automata DLC. Located in the game's Gameplay settings, players can choose from three options:
- Auto: Automatically enables or disables seasonal content based on the season.
- Disable: Deactivates all seasonal content.
- Enable: Activates all seasonal content.
Note that changing this setting requires a restart, loading the most recent save.
Mixed Reception
The announcement was met with mostly positive reactions, with many players embracing the "Christmas Eve" nickname for the protagonist. However, some players questioned the frequency of event updates for a single-player game with a relatively short playtime (around 30 hours). The need to restart the game to fully experience the seasonal content was also a point of contention. Many games with seasonal content offer multiplayer or high replayability, extending the lifespan of cosmetic rewards. Stellar Blade's single-player nature means players may find themselves restarting to fully enjoy the seasonal additions after completing the main story.
