Wuchang Modders Reverse Story Changes

Author : Madison Mar 10,2026

A modder has provided a solution for PC players of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers who are dissatisfied with the recent alterations made in Patch 1.5.

Last month, developer Leenzee Games assured players that numerous performance and optimization problems affecting the game since its launch were being addressed. While Patch 1.5 does fix many of these issues, it also implemented broad, unexpected modifications to many enemies, dialogue sequences, and story elements.

As previously reported, before the patch, players could target and eliminate certain passive human NPCs encountered in the game. Killing these non-aggressive characters influenced the protagonist's "madness" mechanic. This is no longer possible. The NPCs are now invulnerable and cannot be targeted, removing that specific choice from the madness system. Furthermore, boss enemies can no longer be killed; they must be "exhausted" into submission.

Unsurprisingly, these changes have sparked significant backlash. Many players have expressed their disappointment on Steam's discussion forums and in user reviews. Within days of Patch 1.5's release, a modder created a modification that completely reverts all changes—both improvements and drawbacks—back to the game's version 1.4.1 state.

"Wuchang 1.5 significantly degrades the game experience. Most late-game bosses, NPCs, and enemies now become exhausted instead of dying, offering trivial dialogue instead of the story-progressing conversations from the original," the modder stated. "Essentially, patch 1.5 has damaged the game's narrative and immersion."

The mod creator acknowledged it is a "fairly complex mod that modifies game files." Since it also removes some quality-of-life improvements from Patch 1.5, they directed players who wish to revert only the story changes while keeping QoL updates to additional mods like Fast Vertical Traversal, Improved Recovery, and Fast Item Pick Up.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action RPG set in the land of Shu during the dark, chaotic late Ming Dynasty. Players assume the role of a mysterious warrior suffering from a grotesque feather disease, uncovering hidden secrets and battling supernatural foes in an ancient empire on the brink of collapse.

IGN's review of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers awarded it an 8/10. Our verdict read: "Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is another excellent addition to the growing soulslike genre, boasting superb combat, exceptional level design, a fantastic skill tree, and formidable bosses. Be mindful of some erratic difficulty swings and a reliance on occasionally frustrating ambush encounters."
