To achieve the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing certain tasks is crucial, with saving Sam being one of them. Knowing where to find Sam during your journey is key to aiming for perfection in the game.
Rescuing Sam During “Reckoning”
As you approach the conclusion of the main quest line, you discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer’s Camp, captured by Brabant. Your chance to rescue him comes during the main quest “Reckoning.” However, infiltrating the camp isn't straightforward. You have the choice between stealth and direct confrontation.
To move freely within the camp without arousing suspicion, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can obtain one either by eliminating a guard and taking it from them, making sure to hide the body, or by searching the numerous chests scattered around the camp. Once you're dressed appropriately, you can explore the camp in search of Sam without drawing attention.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escape with him. He informs you about von Aulitz, who is also in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to escort him out of the camp. Sam can wait safely while you complete these tasks, making the process smoother.
Von Aulitz is found in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to enter his quarters without issue. Upon finding him, you'll see that he's already dying. He requests a dignified death, which is the most honorable option. Alternatively, you can choose to kill him brutally or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die actually contributes to the best ending.
Your final steps involve retrieving Sam and securing a horse. Sam remains in the barn where you left him. If questioned by a guard about moving him, simply state that you're handling a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Exit the camp through the gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter until you reach the stables.
