To track down and identify the most elusive ghosts in Phasmophobia, players often turn to special Cursed Possessions—powerful tools that come with their own risks. Among these, the Haunted Mirror stands out as one of the safest and most valuable items available. If you're unsure how it works or whether it's worth using, here’s everything you need to know.
How to Use the Haunted Mirror in Phasmophobia
The Haunted Mirror is widely regarded as one of the least dangerous Cursed Objects in Phasmophobia. Despite its low risk, the reward it offers can significantly speed up your investigation. Its function has remained consistent through various game updates, making it a reliable tool when found during a ghost hunt.
When used correctly, the Haunted Mirror reveals the ghost’s current favorite room or location on the map by reflecting a panoramic view of that space. For players familiar with common map layouts, this insight can drastically reduce the time it takes to locate the ghost and prepare your equipment before things escalate.
The mirror typically spawns in specific locations—either hanging on a wall (as seen at 6 Tanglewood Drive) or lying flat on the floor. While each Cursed Object has a fixed spawn point, whether it appears at all is subject to random chance.
To activate the mirror:
- Pick it up.
- Press the appropriate interaction key/button (mouse or controller) to hold it up.
- Look into the reflection to see the ghost’s current favorite room.
Keep in mind that if you're playing on Professional difficulty or higher, the ghost may move to a new area after some time, so act quickly once you’ve gathered the information.
However, prolonged use of the Haunted Mirror affects your sanity. Staring into it for too long will drain your sanity bar and potentially trigger a Cursed Hunt if the mirror shatters while you're holding it. Always ensure your sanity levels are high before using it, and be ready to interpret what you see swiftly and accurately.
What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions—often referred to simply as “Cursed Objects”—are rare, powerful items that randomly appear on maps in Phasmophobia. Their presence may vary depending on difficulty settings or Challenge Mode status.
Unlike standard investigative gear, which helps detect and gather evidence from the ghost with minimal danger, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts or advantages—but often at a much greater personal risk. Using them is entirely optional, and there is no penalty for choosing not to interact with them.
Only one Cursed Possession will spawn per contract by default, unless modified in Custom Game settings.
Currently, there are seven different Cursed Objects in the game:
- Summoning Circle
- Haunted Mirror
- Voodoo Doll
- Music Box
- Tarot Cards
- Ouija Board
- Monkey Paw
