Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization. Read on for details and the reasons behind fan disappointment.
Omori's European Physical Release Cancellation
A Series of Delays Leading to Cancellation
Meridiem Games' Twitter (X) announcement confirmed the cancellation of the physical European release. While the publisher cited technical localization challenges, further details weren't provided.
Fans have pointed out a history of delays. Initial listings showed a March 2023 release date, subsequently pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally January 2025. Pre-orders through Amazon were ultimately cancelled. These repeated postponements ultimately resulted in the cancellation.
This news is a significant blow to fans, especially considering it would have been the first official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. European players still have the option of importing a US physical copy, but a localized release was eagerly anticipated.
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends the real world with Sunny's dream world, where he becomes Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an inappropriate T-shirt design previously sold by OMOCAT.
