PC Games: Enhance Your Gameplay with Controllers

PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse control, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are actually enhanced by using a controller. Games emphasizing fast-paced action, reflex-based movement, or melee combat often feel more intuitive and enjoyable with a gamepad. This is especially true for titles originating on consoles and subsequently ported to PC.

While many PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain genres lend themselves better to controllers. Let's explore some examples of PC games that shine when played with a gamepad.

Updated January 7, 2025: Late 2024 saw several high-profile releases, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force. While these generally perform well with keyboard and mouse, some might find a slight preference for gamepad in certain titles like the Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, although the difference is minimal.

Several upcoming PC game releases in the next month are anticipated to be better suited to controller play, though this remains to be confirmed:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port following the Monster Hunter formula, suggesting controller compatibility.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently benefits from gamepad use.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the predecessor's superior controller experience, this is likely to follow suit.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC, typically optimized for controllers, though keyboard and mouse might still be viable.

A 2024 Soulslike game has also been added to this list. See below for details.
