Persona 4 Golden: How To Beat Magical Magus

Quick Links

Yukiko's Castle serves as the first significant dungeon in Persona 4 Golden. Despite its brevity (seven floors), it provides a crucial introduction to the game's mechanics and combat system.

While the initial floors present minimal difficulty, later encounters introduce the Magical Magus, a formidable random enemy. This guide details its weaknesses and effective strategies for defeating it.

Magical Magus Weakness & Skills in Persona 4 Golden

The Magical Magus utilizes powerful skills, primarily fire-based attacks. Equipping fire-resistant accessories (found in golden chests within Yukiko's Castle) is highly recommended. These accessories also prove beneficial during the final boss battle.

When the Magical Magus begins charging magic, prepare to guard on your next turn. It frequently casts Agilao, a potent spell capable of eliminating unprepared party members. While Hysterical Slap inflicts substantial physical damage (two hits), Agilao poses the greater threat. Strategically, it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding, minimizing their risk, while the protagonist utilizes light-based attacks.

Early-Game Persona with a Light Skill in Persona 4 Golden

Archangel is the optimal early-game Persona possessing a light skill (Hama). It also learns Media at level 12, a valuable skill for the final boss fight. Archangel is a level 11 Persona, easily fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

Light and dark skills in Persona 4 Golden function as instant-kill attacks when targeting an enemy's weakness. Hama's near-guaranteed success and instant-kill potential make the Magical Magus surprisingly easy to defeat. Given Archangel's high level, farming the Magical Magus is viable, provided you have sufficient SP restoration items or are willing to enter the boss fight with reduced SP.
