Team Cherry Reaffirms Hollow Knight: Silksong Development is Ongoing

Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager Matthew Griffin has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong remains in active development. Discover the latest updates and community reactions surrounding this much-anticipated sequel.

This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real

Confirmed By Team Cherry's Griffin

After recent cake-related speculation, Hollow Knight fans can now breathe easier knowing the sequel is still in development. Team Cherry's Marketing and Publishing Head Matthew "Leth" Griffin responded via X (Twitter) to a fan seeking confirmation about Silksong's status.

This clarification came after Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X profile picture to a cake. The modification sparked rumors about a potential Silksong announcement or ARG tied to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, YouTuber fireb0rn's inquiry to Griffin confirmed it was merely a profile picture update with no hidden meaning. "The cake was a lie," fireb0rn tweeted.

Griffin provided reassurance, stating: "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This marks the first official update about Silksong's development status in over eighteen months.

Silksong's Six-Year Journey

Hollow Knight: Silksong Development Timeline

Initially announced in February 2019 with a planned mid-2023 release window, Team Cherry delayed Silksong in May 2023, citing the project's expanded scope and desire for further refinement. The sequel promises a new kingdom, approximately 150 enemies, and an innovative Silk Soul difficulty mode. Now approaching two years since the delay, this recent confirmation provides fans with much-needed reassurance.

The update elicited mixed responses from the community. Some fans expressed gratitude for the confirmation and encouraged the team to take their time, while others voiced frustration over the prolonged wait and lack of concrete details about progress.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will control Hornet, princess-protector of Hallownest, as she embarks on a perilous journey through an unknown world. While no specific release window exists currently, stay tuned for future updates.
