Square Enix Enforces Policies for Employee Protection

Square Enix Unveils Robust Anti-Harassment Policy to Protect Employees and Partners

Square Enix has proactively introduced a comprehensive anti-harassment policy designed to safeguard its employees and collaborators. This policy clearly defines unacceptable behavior, encompassing a wide range of actions from threats of violence to defamation. The company asserts its right to deny services and pursue legal action against individuals engaging in harassment.

The policy's implementation underscores the growing need for such measures within the gaming industry. Online threats and harassment have become increasingly prevalent, targeting individuals across the industry spectrum. Square Enix's decisive action follows numerous high-profile incidents, including death threats and disruptions of events.

The policy, detailed on the Square Enix website, explicitly protects all staff, from support personnel to executives. While encouraging fan feedback, the company firmly rejects harassment, providing a detailed list of prohibited behaviors.

These behaviors include, but are not limited to:

  • Harassment: Threats of violence, abusive language, intimidation, defamation, stalking, persistent unwanted contact, trespassing, discriminatory remarks, privacy violations (unauthorized photography or recording), and sexual harassment.
  • Undue Demands: Unreasonable product exchanges, demands for monetary compensation, excessive service requests, and unreasonable requests for apologies targeting specific employees.

Square Enix's policy outlines consequences for violating these guidelines, including service termination and legal action in cases of malicious intent. This proactive stance reflects a necessary response to the escalating issue of online harassment within the gaming community. Past incidents, including death threats against Square Enix staff and the cancellation of events due to threats, highlight the critical importance of this policy. The recent negative experiences of voice actors, like Sena Bryer, further underscore the need for robust protective measures.
