VNeID: Electronic identification and authentication application
The VNeID application is developed by Vietnam's National Population Data Center under the Ministry of Public Security. It leverages national population data for digital identification and electronic authentication.
The VNeID application is intended for individuals residing in and traveling throughout Vietnam.
VNeID provides a digital alternative to physical documents, enabling citizen identification online. It offers utilities to support digital citizenship, digital government, and a digital society. The app assists users in submitting health declarations and domestic travel information. Additionally, it aids authorities in contact tracing for COVID-19 and issuing timely notifications to the public.
Access: By using this Application, the User consents to grant it access to the following device functions:
(1) Internet access from the user's device.
(2) Camera access to scan the QR code on a Citizen Identity Card for faster data entry, and to scan QR codes at checkpoints for quick travel and medical declarations.
(3) Access to Photos, Media, and Files on the device to store QR code images for verification at citizen checkpoints.
(4) Permission to send notifications to the user's device.
Personal Information Collection: Users enter data, declare health status, report domestic travel, or declare on behalf of others with their explicit permission. Collected information may include: Full name, Phone number, Citizen ID, Gender, Year of Birth, Permanent Address, Nationality, Health Status, Places of Departure and Destination, Vehicle License Plate, and COVID-19 exposure history. All information is collected with the user's consent via form submission within the app.
Users are solely responsible for their legal capacity and the accuracy of the information they provide.
Privacy and Copyright Protection: User data is stored and secured by the National Population Data Center, Ministry of Public Security. It is used solely for COVID-19 prevention, control, and public health protection. Data is not used for commercial purposes or to infringe on personal privacy. It may be shared with Health Authorities and other competent agencies to enhance COVID-19 prevention efforts.
Beyond the stated purposes, the application developer does not collect or use user information for any other reason. The developer will not disclose information in ways that could harm user privacy or violate Vietnamese law or app policies.
- No Location Collection: VNeID does not collect location data.
- Anonymity: Community interactions are anonymous. Only competent authorities can identify individuals who are infected or are close contacts for the purpose of contact tracing.
