Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Playthrough Duration Revealed
A 30-40 Hour Main Campaign Awaits
Prepare for an extensive adventure! Creative Director Jonathan Dumont revealed during the Kyoto Showcase Event that Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) offers a main campaign clocking in at approximately 30-40 hours. Beyond the main storyline, players can expect over 80 hours of engaging side content. Further enhancing replayability, the team is actively considering a New Game+ mode, a feature highly requested by fans following the absence of one in AC Valhalla.
Dumont highlighted several key features, including dynamic seasonal weather systems, innovative gameplay mechanics, and a significantly expanded, customizable Hideout. The game also features a new Animus storyline that will weave into future Assassin’s Creed games and projects.
A Japanese-Inspired Assassin's Creed
The development team’s passion for creating a Japan-centric Assassin’s Creed is evident. Dumont shared that the project represents a long-held dream, made possible by advancements in technology that allow for the seamless integration of Japan's natural environment within the game’s narrative.
Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese films like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and Kurosawa works, AC Shadows offers a unique blend of historical authenticity and the signature Assassin’s Creed style. The team acknowledges the online discussions surrounding the game, particularly concerning Yasuke's portrayal, and strives to address constructive criticism. Their primary focus remains delivering a high-quality game that honors both the historical setting and the expectations of their Japanese fanbase.
Exploring the Hideout: Your Customizable Base of Operations
The Secret Valley of Izumi Settsu
A detailed look at the Hideout, revealed on March 5, 2025, showcases its extensive customization options. Nestled within the secluded valley of Izumi Settsu province, this serves as the player's central hub for building their Brotherhood.
Systems Associate Director Dany describes the Hideout as “pretty ambitious,” highlighting the significant leap forward from previous iterations. Players are granted an entire acre of land for complete customization, allowing placement of buildings, pavilions, pathways, and even local flora and fauna. Dany emphasizes the team's desire for players to truly make the Hideout their own, with customization options progressively unlocking as the player advances through the game.
Building Your League
The Hideout will house a diverse cast of characters, each with unique backstories and challenges. Character placement influences interactions, with fighters congregating in the Dojo, for example, or others enjoying sake in the Zashiki. This dynamic design fosters emergent storytelling, creating a living, breathing community for your allies. Dany highlights the collaborative effort of writers from four different studios, resulting in rich and unexpected interactions between characters, making the Hideout the true heart of your league.
With its immersive Japanese setting, extensive gameplay, and highly customizable Hideout, Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises a compelling experience for Assassin’s Creed fans and newcomers alike.
