The creator of a popular Bloodborne 60fps patch has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony. Lance McDonald, a well-known video game modder, announced on Twitter that Sony Interactive Entertainment requested the removal of links to his patch, which he subsequently complied with.
McDonald ironically recalled a past encounter with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, where he mentioned creating the Bloodborne 60fps mod, prompting laughter from Yoshida.
Bloodborne's status as a highly sought-after game remains a significant industry puzzle. Despite its critical and commercial success on PS4, Sony hasn't released any official next-gen updates, remasters, or sequels, leaving fans yearning for a 60fps experience. This demand has been partially met by community efforts like McDonald's patch and recent advancements in PS4 emulation, which now allows for near-remaster quality gameplay at 60fps on PC. This technological breakthrough may have contributed to Sony's more assertive action. IGN has reached out to Sony for comment.
Earlier this month, Yoshida offered his perspective on Bloodborne's inactivity in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He theorized that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's creator, holds a strong personal attachment to Bloodborne and prefers not to delegate its potential remaster or update to others, a sentiment respected by the PlayStation team.
Bloodborne's future remains uncertain almost a decade after its release. While Miyazaki often avoids direct questions about the game, citing FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, he did acknowledge in February 2023 that a release on more modern hardware would be beneficial. The ongoing situation highlights the complex interplay between fan demand, developer sentiment, and publisher decisions surrounding this beloved title.
