inZOI's Director Unveils Plans for Karma System and Ghostly Encounters
inZOI game director Hyungjun Kim recently revealed intriguing details about an upcoming Karma system, introducing a paranormal element to the game's realistic simulation of life. This system will determine the fate of deceased Zois, transforming them into ghosts based on their accumulated Karma points.
Kim explained in a February 7, 2025 Discord post that Zois with sufficient Karma points upon death transition to the afterlife. However, those with insufficient points remain as ghosts, bound to the world until they accrue enough Karma to move on. The specific actions required to restore Karma points remain undisclosed.
While acknowledging the game's focus on realism, Kim emphasized a desire to balance the paranormal element with core gameplay. Ghost interactions, he stated, will be "fairly limited" in the Early Access version, primarily involving special conversations under specific circumstances and at designated times.
Kim also hinted at future expansions of the fantasy elements within inZOI, stating, "Occasionally stepping away from the game's native, ultra-realistic setting could add an extra layer of fun."
A glimpse into the Karma system was offered earlier by content creator MadMorph in an August 2024 sponsored video. MadMorph showcased "Karma Interactions," a feature allowing players to perform actions that either increase or decrease Karma points. Examples shown included a less-than-savory prank (secretly farting on another Zoi's face) and more positive actions like "Throw Away Trash" or "Like a Friend’s Post," although the latter wasn't demonstrated.
While the Early Access release (March 28, 2025 on Steam) will focus on the living Zois, Kim confirmed that Karma Interactions will play a more significant role in future updates.
