Helldivers 2's phenomenal success has been further cemented with its recent accolades at the BAFTA Game Awards, where it clinched the titles for Best Multiplayer and Best Music out of five nominations. This marks a triumphant conclusion to an awards season that has highlighted a stellar year for the Swedish developer, Arrowhead.

It's worth recalling that Helldivers 2 set a record as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever, moving an incredible 12 million copies in just 12 weeks. This unprecedented achievement is unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony-developed title. However, the journey since its explosive launch has been anything but smooth, with a significant policy reversal on PSN account requirements on Steam, review-bomb campaigns, and a community often at odds with the game over its balance changes.
Arrowhead has faced the challenge of managing a significantly larger and more mainstream playerbase than it had ever anticipated. Now, 14 months after Helldivers 2's release on PC and PlayStation 5, the developer is reflecting on these experiences. Has Arrowhead finally mastered the demanding world of live-service gaming? Following the successful Killzone collaboration, could a partnership with Warhammer 40,000 be on the horizon?
IGN had the opportunity to sit down with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2, to delve deeper into these questions and more.
