inZOI, the upcoming life simulation game, introduces a unique karma system that can turn vibrant cities into ghost towns if not managed properly. This innovative feature not only adds depth to the gameplay but also challenges players to maintain balance within their virtual worlds. Read on to discover more about inZOI’s karma system and its upcoming early access release.
inZOI Cities Can Be Overrun By Ghosts
New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts
inZOI's karma system plays a crucial role in shaping the experience of the game. According to inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim, featured in the latest issue of PC Gamer Magazine, "Each time a Zoi performs an action, karma points are accumulated." Upon a Zoi's death, a karma evaluation takes place, determining the state of the soul. If the karma score is too low, the Zoi turns into a ghost, requiring redemption of karma points before transitioning into a new life.
Kim further explained that an excess of ghosts can drastically alter the status of a city. "If too many ghosts appear in the city, new Zois cannot be born, nor can families be created," he said. This places the responsibility on players to manage the karma of the Zois within the city, adding a layer of complexity and engagement to the gameplay. Kim emphasized that the system is not about enforcing only 'good' actions but about exploring the diverse meanings and values of life. "Life cannot be divided simply into good and bad; every life has its own meaning and value," he noted, encouraging players to delve into inZOI’s karma system to create varied events and stories.
inZOI Director Has Great Respect for the Legacy The Sims Built
While inZOI may be seen as a significant contender in the life simulation genre, Director Hyungjun Kim does not view it as a direct competitor to The Sims. "We see Inzoi not as a competitor to The Sims, but rather as another option that fans of this genre can enjoy," he stated. Kim expressed his respect for The Sims' legacy, acknowledging the challenge of capturing the vast and complex concept of 'life' in a short period. "We have great respect for the legacy The Sims has built over the years," he said, highlighting the difficulty of achieving such depth in life simulation games.
inZOI aims to offer a distinct experience by focusing on its unique features. Kim explained, "Inzoi is designed to allow players to freely shape the life they desire, using various creative tools." These tools include a realistic visual style powered by Unreal Engine 5, in-depth customization features, and AI-driven creative tools. Kim hopes that players will explore these features to bring their imaginations to life, becoming their own protagonists in the game's world.
