Hopetown, a nonlinear RPG crafted by Longdue Games, introduces a unique approach to narrative-driven gameplay. The studio, founded by former employees of renowned companies like ZA/UM, Rockstar Games, and Bungie, has unveiled the first glimpses of the game's mechanics, positioning it as a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium. Set in a mining town, the plot follows a journalist who wakes up after a night of heavy drinking, grappling with a severe hangover. Players must unravel the mystery of what transpired the previous night while navigating an escalating local conflict, deciding whether to soothe tensions or exacerbate them.

Screenshots of the game highlight a dialogue-centric experience where player choices significantly steer the narrative. The game offers multiple archetypes, each providing unique dialogue options and approaches during interactions. For instance, when engaging with an elderly woman feeding pigeons, players can choose different tones, which in turn affect the conversation's outcome.
Longdue Games is gearing up to launch a Kickstarter campaign to finance the project, with a dedicated page already live on the platform. Although a release date remains unconfirmed, excitement is mounting within the community of narrative-focused RPG enthusiasts.
Hopetown isn't the only game drawing inspiration from Disco Elysium. Two other studios, Dark Math Games and Summer Eternal, are also developing their own psychological RPGs, adding to the growing genre of immersive, choice-driven experiences.
