S-Game Clarifies Remarks on Xbox Following ChinaJoy 2024 Controversy
Following reports of controversial statements attributed to an anonymous Phantom Blade Zero developer at ChinaJoy 2024, S-Game has issued a statement clarifying its position. The initial reports, amplified by several media outlets, suggested a lack of interest in the Xbox platform, with some translations even going so far as to claim "nobody needs Xbox."
S-Game's official Twitter(X) statement refutes these interpretations. The studio emphasized its commitment to broad accessibility for Phantom Blade Zero, stating that the reported comments "do not represent S-GAME’s values or culture." They explicitly affirmed that no platforms have been ruled out for the game's release.
The initial controversy stemmed from a Chinese news outlet's report, subsequently translated and disseminated internationally. While some truth exists in the observation of Xbox's comparatively lower market share in Asia compared to PlayStation and Nintendo (particularly evident in Japan's sales figures), the aggressive phrasing and misinterpretations fueled speculation.
The lack of widespread Xbox retail availability in many Asian countries further complicates the picture, highlighting logistical challenges for the platform's presence in the region.
Rumors of an exclusive deal with Sony, fueled by S-Game's previous acknowledgment of Sony's support, were also addressed. The studio denied any exclusive partnership, reiterating their plans for a PC release alongside the PlayStation 5 version.
While an Xbox release remains unconfirmed, S-Game's statement leaves the possibility open, effectively quashing the more extreme interpretations of the initial reports. The company's focus is clearly on delivering Phantom Blade Zero to the widest possible audience.
