The developers at MercurySteam, alumni of Rebel Act Studios, bring their experience from the cult classic game Severance: Blade of Darkness. Released in 2001, this game was renowned for its innovative combat system that allowed players to sever enemies' limbs, introducing a level of brutality and realism that captivated gamers. Severance served as a significant source of inspiration for MercurySteam's new project, Blades of Fire.
While rooted in the past, Blades of Fire also draws from contemporary action-adventure titles. The team took cues from the cinematic combat and richly detailed world of Santa Monica Studio's God of War reboot, aiming to blend fast-paced action with RPG elements to deliver an engaging and immersive experience.
A standout feature of Blades of Fire is its unique weapon crafting system. Players can forge their own blades, customizing aspects like length, weight, durability, and balance. This allows for personalized weapons tailored to individual combat styles, enhancing the gameplay experience.
The narrative of Blades of Fire follows the warrior Aran de Lira as he confronts a cunning queen with the power to turn metal into stone. Throughout his journey, Aran will encounter 50 different types of enemies, each demanding a strategic and unique approach to defeat.
Blades of Fire is set to launch on PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PS5 on May 22, 2025, promising a thrilling addition to the action-adventure genre.
